About Me
My career in fire and emergency services spans decades, reflecting my deep dedication to the safety and well-being of the community. From battling wildland fires in rugged landscapes to responding to structural fires in urban settings, I’ve gained invaluable experience that has shaped my approach to emergency services.
I began my firefighting journey with Valley Fire Service, where I developed my skills in structural firefighting. At the same time, I worked with the Oregon Department of Forestry, gaining hands-on experience in wildland fire management. This dual exposure gave me a well-rounded understanding of fire behavior and the many challenges firefighters face.
From there, I expanded my expertise with the Rural Metro Wildland Division and the U.S. Forest Service, where I tackled some of the toughest wildland fires. Eventually, my career brought me back to structural firefighting with Rural Metro Fire and then the City of Scottsdale Fire Department. Over the years, I responded to countless emergencies, from fires to medical rescues, while also taking on leadership roles that strengthened my technical knowledge and decision-making skills.
Beyond emergency response, I’ve always believed that firefighters are an integral part of the communities they serve. I’ve been actively involved in community service programs, including:
- Fire Safety Education: Teaching fire prevention strategies to schools, businesses, and community groups to help people recognize risks and avoid dangerous situations.
- Disaster Preparedness: Helping communities prepare for emergencies by assisting with evacuation plans, emergency kits, and public safety drills.
- Public Health and Wellness: Supporting mental health awareness, CPR training, and wellness initiatives to enhance community resilience.
- Youth Engagement: Mentoring young people through fire service programs to inspire the next generation of first responders.
- Community Events and Fundraisers: Participating in local initiatives like blood drives, charity events, and public outreach efforts to strengthen the bond between first responders and the residents they serve.
After retiring in 2018, I returned to my roots in Josephine County, eager to bring my experience and leadership back to the community I love. I understand the unique challenges facing rural fire districts, and I’m committed to ensuring that our fire services remain well-equipped, well-trained, and prepared to respond when residents need them most.
As I seek a seat on the Josephine County Rural Fire Protection District Fire Board, my goal is to build a fire service that meets the evolving needs of our community. I believe in maintaining and improving current service levels while eliminating the need for a tax base during startup through a franchised fire protection model. This approach allows us to provide high-quality emergency services without placing an immediate financial burden on residents.
I’m ready to serve once again—this time as an advocate for fire protection, a voice for the community, and a leader in shaping the future of our fire district. I would be honored to have your support.
